Weber State wins in five-sets to Missouri State

Springfield, Mo. - Weber State volleyball secured a five-set victory against the Missouri State Bears on Friday evening. The win puts the Wildcats 2-0 on the weekend.
SET 1 | It was a slow start to the set for Weber State as the Wildcat squad trailed the Bears by five early on. Chipping away at the lead, the 'Cats found their way close behind Missouri State by just one after a trio of attack errors made by the Bears. Tied up at 14-14, Weber State took their first lead in the set after a Rose Moore kill. With the Missouri State offense struggling they were forced to a timeout. It was a back and forth battle from there on until the end of the set where it fell in favor of the Wildcats, 25-21.
SET 2 | The second set saw multiple lead exchanges and a tough offense and defense from both squads. The Wildcats were down by three at 23-20 and unfortunately, could not produce the momentum to overpower the Bears and fell 25-22 in set two.
SET 3 | With the match tied 1-1 headed into the third set, Weber State was hoping to gain the advantage. Two service aces by Marly Pratt helped the 'Cats to a three-point lead at 14-11. Quickly after, Weber State was up 17-13 and Missouri State was forced to a timeout. It was all the Wildcats after that securing the victory 25-16.
SET 4 | The Bears came out fighting in the fourth, securing a 25-18 win and pushing the match to a fifth set.
SET 5 | It was a race to 15 as the Wildcats and Bears battled. Weber State began to pull away after big kills from Baylee Bodily and Jayda Tupea but Missouri State fought their way to not trail far behind. Two kills by Liana Woodley and Tupea plus a pair of attack errors made by the Bears gave Weber State the space to take the set 15-11 and the match 3-2.
Two Wildcats were in double digits for kills, Ashley Gneiting with 16 and Bodily with a new single game career high of 19. Weber State as a team performed best in the third set, hitting .310 percent and racking up 14 kills.
