Wildcats drop match to Wolverines

Orem, Utah - Weber State dropped a four-set match to Utah Valley at Lockhart Arena on Tuesday.
SET 1 | It was a tight first set to open the match. Four straight points by Utah Valley allowed them to start to pull away but not too far before Weber State took the lead 17-16. Unfortunately, the 'Cats were unable to run with that lead and the first set fell 25-22 in favor of the green and white. There were eight tied scores and five lead exchanges throughout the first set.
SET 2 | Weber State raced out to an early 9-2 lead, building on that advantage the Wildcats kept up the momentum and pulled further 18-8. The Wolverines battled back with two 3-0 runs however, it was not enough to take the advantage from the Wildcats. Weber State closed the second set to 25-20 and totaled 12 kills during the set and hit .219 as a team.
SET 3 | Trailing the Wolverines by two, a Wildcat five-point run put the 'Cats ahead by three. A kill by Kate Payne and another by Rose Moore continued to increase the lead for WSU. Utah Valley was forced to a timeout with the 'Cats up by four. Cutting that lead down to two, Weber State called a timeout. The score was tied 24-24 until a huge block by Baylee Bodily and Liana Woodley gave another point to the 'Cats. Points were exchanged back and forth between the two squads until two Wolverine kills ended it 29-27.
SET 4 | UVU tallied off two points late in the set to trail WSU 18-16 and then utilized two kills by Sami Blackett and a Wildcat error to tie up the set 21-21. Utah Valley found their momentum after that and sealed the set 25-23 and the match 3-1.
The Wildcat squad totaled 51 kills. Both squads recorded 61 digs on the night. Leading Weber State, Ashley Gneiting had 14 kills.
