Wildcats finish out Doubletree Classic with a loss to Milwaukee

DALLAS - The Milwaukee Panthers defeated the Weber State Wildcats in four sets on Saturday morning in the last game of the SMU Doubletree Classic. The 'Cats finished out the weekend 0-3.
SET 1 | The Wildcats and Panthers went neck and neck in the first set of the morning. Falling behind 21-18 after a four-point run by Milwaukee, the Wildcats dug deep to make a 4-0 run of their own to trail the Panthers by just one point. Big kills by Baylee Bodily and Jayda Tupea tied up the set and then took the lead 25-24. Pushed into extra points, the 'Cats did not back down and two more huge kills by Tupea and Bodily secured the first set for Weber State 27-25. WSU hit .214 in the first set and recorded 16 kills.
SET 2 | Hoping to continue that winning energy into the second set, Weber State and Milwaukee stayed close before the Panthers pulled ahead by six. WSU was unable to recover from that advantage and dropped the set 25-20.
SET 3 | Weber State took control of the third set early on however, Milwaukee trailed close behind. A 5-0 run by the Panthers at the end of the set was the deciding factor and Milwaukee finished it out 25-21.
SET 4 | Needing a fourth set victory to continue the match, Weber State battled with the Panthers until a six-point run forced the Wildcats to a timeout. Following the timeout, Weber State held close with Milwaukee at 13-12 until 11 straight points by the Panthers gave them enough space to where the Wildcats could not recover. Milwaukee ended the set 25-13 and the match 3-1.
Tupea led Weber State in kills with 16 and blocks with three. The Wildcats totaled a .133 hitting percentage and 48 kills as a team. Ashley Gneiting had three service aces against the Panthers.

Weber State travels to Springfield, MO for the Missouri State Tournament September 12-14 where they will face Missouri State, Saint Louis, and UT Arlington.
