OGDEN - The Weber State women's basketball team secured a 72-67 overtime victory against the Idaho State Bengals. The win improves the Wildcats 2-1 in Big Sky play.
First Half | Weber State came out strong to start the game, not allowing Idaho State a single lead throughout the quarter. The Wildcats held the largest lead of 10 points during the quarter and closed out the first 10 minutes of game play 25-17. Wildcats Taylor Smith and Kendra Parra both led the team with six points.
The second quarter saw much of the same from the Wildcats as the team maintained their lead over the Bengals. Posting 15 points the 'Cats closed out the half 40-33. Smith and Antoniette Emma-Nnopu were in double digits with 10 points each.
Second Half | Idaho State battled at the deficit to begin the second half. Trailing the Wildcats by just three early on and then tying the score 48-48. Idaho State took the lead 51-50 with just over three minutes left in the quarter. Weber State remained close to end the third quarter 54-55.
In the final quarter of game play, two good Emma-Nnopu free throws put the Wildcats back on top 58-57. The Bengals responded with three of their own to then maintain a two-point advantage. Tied again at 60-60 after a Rose Bubakar layup and only 3:58 remaining, both teams were looking for the victory. Unable to obtain that, the game was pushed into overtime at 62-62.
Overtime | The Wildcats and Bengals were neck and neck as they continued into overtime. Idaho State led with the advantage until Parra tied it up at 67-67. It was all Parra then on as she put up another layup with 12 seconds to go and drained two free throws to take secure win 72-67 over the Bengals.
From Head Coach Jenteal Jackson
"I thought we did a good job on the offensive side of the ball, we had a few defensive lapses but I'm proud of my group and how we fought to grind out the win."
