Men’s Tennis completes comeback against New Mexico State

Las Vegas, Nevada — The Weber State Men's Tennis completed their comeback to take down New Mexico State 4-3 in the final match of the UNLV Quad Tournament.
"Great match today with New Mexico State. William Zulch deserves most of the credit for this win. He won the first set and kept trying to motivate his teammates," head coach Brad Ferreira said, "Jordan Coutinho saved 6 different match points to take the third set and the match 8-6 in the tiebreaker. Great comeback effort today."
The team clinched the team doubles point with 6-3 wins on both Court #2 and #3. The duos of William Zulch/Tristan Sarap and Franco Quijano/Theo Mottier put the 'Cats up 1-0 heading into singles play.
In singles play, the Wildcats lost the first sets on five courts to begin singles play. The Wildcats went down 3-1 with one more loss clinching the win for the Aggies. This set the stage for the Wildcat's comeback. Tristan Sarap lost his first set 6-0 and returned to win the next two 6-3, 6-4 to keep the 'Cats alive. Zulch lost the second set and went down 4-1 in the third before dominating the rest of the game to win the match 6-4 tying the total match at 3-3. Jordan Coutinho provided the clincher as he saved six different match points to take the third set and the match 10-8 in the tiebreaker.
The 'Cats finish the UNLV Quad Tournament with a 2-1 overall record. A comeback falling short against host team UNLV on Friday gave the team their only loss on the weekend. The Wildcats will take the court again on Valentine's Day against the San Diego State Aztecs. The match will take place at the Ogden Athletic Club at 11:30 a.m.
