Wildcats drop 3-1 decision to Montana on the road

MISSOULA, Montana - The Weber State volleyball squad closed out its weekend road trip with a 3-1 loss to the Montana Griz.
It was a tightly contested first set as both squads battled through 11 ties and three lead changes. The Wildcats held a three-point advantage at 13-10 before the Griz responded with a 5-0 run to take the lead and force a Weber State timeout. Coming out of the break, the Wildcats snapped the run and trailed by just one at 15-14. However, Montana regained momentum, closing the set on a seven-point run to win 25-15. Throughout the set, Weber State hit .097 compared to Montana's .400. The second set followed a similar pattern as six straight points for the Griz secured another 25-14 win.
The third set saw a shift in momentum as Weber State maintained a steady lead, pulling ahead by six after back-to-back kills from Kaylie Ray. Montana cut the deficit to four, but it wasn't enough as the Wildcats stayed alive with a 25-21 win and hit .286 percent, their highest of the match.
Looking to force a fifth set, the fourth frame featured 10 ties and five lead changes as both squads battled. Ray tied the set at 24-24, pushing a Montana timeout. Shortly after, the Wildcats went ahead by one after a block from Brielle Rueckert and Rylee Parkinson. But the Griz proved too much in the end, stringing together three straight points to close out the set 27-25 and take the match 3-1.
