Wildcats battle to a 3-1 win over Bengals

Kaylie Ray notched 18 kills against the Bengals—her second 18-kill performance of the season.
OGDEN - The Weber State volleyball team bounced back from a tight opening set loss to earn a 3-1 victory over Idaho State this Friday evening.Â
The Bengals claimed the first set 28-26 in a back-and-forth battle where both teams exchanged points before Idaho State used a pair of Weber State errors to tie the set 24-24. The Wildcats went up by one at 26-25 following a Morgan Pratt service ace, however, the Bengals then used two kills and a Weber State error to secure the set.Â
Settling into a rhythm in set two, the Wildcats totaled 15 kills on just five errors and held the Bengals to only nine kills. A scoring run mid-set helped Weber State establish a lead to close out the frame 25-19 and even the match. In the third set, neither team was able to separate by more than a few points. Weber State's attack was led by Kaylie Ray and Ashley Gneiting as they both tacked on kills to tie the score 19-19. Controlling the set from there, the Wildcats pulled away to win the set 25-23 and earn the advantage in the match.Â
Weber State maintained momentum in the fourth set and took advantage of Idaho State's errors. Using a 5-0 run to go up by six, the Wildcats continued their offensive efforts and closed out the set with a Rose Moore kill, 25-19, and the match 3-1.
