OGDEN - Weber State volleyball defeated Eastern Washington in four sets on Thursday evening. Notching another Big Sky victory, the Wildcats extend their win streak to two and their conference record to 3-1.
Weber State came out strong to start the match, posting 12 kills and just three errors on 34 attacks while hitting .265 percent. Limiting Eastern Washington's attack, the Eagles managed only six kills and 11 errors for a hitting percentage of -.119 percent. Eastern Washington's struggling offense put Weber State in control early as they secured a 25-11 victory.
The second set was much tighter as Eastern Washington finished it 26-24 to even the match. The Eagles led by five at 18-13 until a Wildcat 4-0 run tied the set at 22-22. Battling, the set was tied again at 24-24 following a kill by Rose Moore (Lehi, UT/Skyridge HS). The Eagles then recorded a kill and capitalized on a Wildcat error to win the set and tie the match.
Reasserting control in the third set, Weber State delivered 12 kills while maintaining consistent defense for a 25-15 win and a 2-1 lead in the match. The Wildcats then closed it out in the deciding fourth set as Weber State used a pair of 2-0 runs to take a three-point lead. Not long after, the 'Cats recorded four consecutive points, including two kills from Ashley Gneiting (Pleasant Grove, UT/Pleasant Grove HS) to seal the match 3-1 with a 25-19 set.
