More preseason honors for the Wildcats. Two Weber State football players have been named to the Big Sky Preseason All-Conference team, released Sunday as part of the Big Sky Kickoff in Spokane.Â
Wildcat senior offensive lineman Gavin Ortega and senior fullback Colter May were both named to the preseason team, which is selected by media members of the media throughout the conference.Â
Ortega also received preseason All-America honors earlier this week. He earned All-Big Sky second team honors in 2024 after starting all 12 games for the Wildcats. He is the only returning Wildcat who earned All-Big Sky honors last season.Â
The native of Bellingham, Washington, enters his senior season having played in 29 career games at Weber State. He also earned Academic All-District honors in 2024.Â
May received preseason all-conference honors as a fullback. He enters his senior season at Weber State having played in 31 career games. He has been part of the Wildcat program since the spring 2021 season, one of three players from that season still on the roster.Â
May, a native of Heyburn, Idaho, played in all 12 games with the Wildcats in 2024.Â
Weber State begins practice for the 2025 season on July 30, and the season opener is set for August 30 at James Madison. The home opener is September 20 against Butler.Â
