Fall camp for Weber State football is underway

Weber State opens the 2025 season on August 30 at James Madison.
OGDEN - Football is here. The Weber State football team kicked off fall camp for the 2025 season on a hot, sunny afternoon on Wednesday at Stewart Stadium.Â
It was the first of 20 scheduled practices over fall camp, including two scrimmages before the week of the first game.Â
Head coach Mickey Mental returns for his third season as head coach of the Wildcats. Weber State has 11 returning starters from last year's squad. Senior offensive lineman Gavin Ortega earned All-Big Sky honors last season and has earned preseason All-America and all-conference honors this season. Senior fullback Colter May was also named to the Big Sky preseason all-conference team. The 'Cats have 12 seniors on this year's roster.Â
The Wildcats also welcome many new players, including new quarterbacks Jackson Gilkey and Cash McCollum, both transfers from FBS schools.Â
Weber State opens the 2025 season with three straight road games, starting at James Madison on August 30. The 'Cats will also play at Arizona on September 6 and McNeese on September 13 before the home opener on September 20 against Butler.Â
WSU also hosts Sacramento State, Eastern Washington, Montana, and Northern Arizona in Big Sky Conference play, and will visit UC Davis, Portland State, Montana State, and Idaho State.Â
