Wildcats sweep Thunderbirds, go 3-0 on the weekend

OGDEN - Weber State volleyball closed out the Wildcat Invitational, sweeping Southern Utah 3-0 on Saturday afternoon in Swenson Gym. The Wildcats went 3-0 on the weekend as they also defeated Nevada and UC Irvine.

It was all the Wildcats in the opening frame, as they cruised to a 25-8 victory over the Southern Utah Thunderbirds.

SUU pushed back in the second set, pulling within two points; however, Weber State responded with a 6-0 run to regain control. The Thunderbirds couldn't overcome the deficit, and the Wildcats pulled away for a 25-16 win.

Weber State left no doubt in the third as they took control early and rolled to a 25-14 victory to secure the sweep.

The Wildcats finished the Wildcat Invitational with a perfect 3-0. Junior outside hitter Rose Moore was named Tournament MVP, and seniors Saane Munyer and Kaylie Ray also earned All-Tournament Team honors.

As a team, Weber State posted 43 kills on a .425 hitting percentage, while holding the Thunderbirds to just 20 kills and a .093 percentage. Moore and Ashley Gneiting reached double figures in kills, while Saane Munyer added nine kills on an impressive .900 hitting percentage.

Keeping up with the 'Cats

WSU volleyball will travel to St. George, UT, for the Utah Tech Tournament on September 4-6. Opponents Utah Tech, Charleston Southern and UC Riverside will be in attendance.
