No. 16 BYU defeats Weber State in three sets

PROVO, Utah - The Weber State Wildcats fell to the No. 16-ranked BYU Cougars in three sets on Tuesday night at the Smith Fieldhouse. The loss moves Weber State's record to 8-2 on the season.
BYU opened the match strong, jumping out to a 6-0 run and taking a 10-3 lead. Weber State was unable to recover from the early deficit, as the Cougars claimed the first set 25-15. The Wildcats totaled just six kills on 29 attempts with seven errors in the frame.
Weber State bounced back, showing up in the second set and staying within three at 14-11 before Kaylie Ray evened the score with a kill at 14-14. Battling point-for-point down to the end, the Wildcats tied it again at 24-24 and then at 25-25 on an Ashley Gneiting kill. However, a service error followed by a Cougar ace gave BYU the set 27-25.
The third set stayed competitive early as the Wildcats traded points with the Cougars. Weber State hit .257 in the frame with 13 kills. Despite the 'Cats attack, BYU continued to lead the offense, posting a .441 hitting percentage with 18 kills and three errors. Strong blocking from Saane Munyer and Brielle Rueckert helped Weber State to keep within reach, but the Cougars pulled away late to take the set 25-19 and secure the sweep.
