OGDEN - Weber State took a 3-1 loss this Thursday night at Swenson Gym to the Utah Valley Wolverines. The loss drops the Wildcats to 8-3 on the season.
Utah Valley opened the night strong, using their competitive presence at the net to claim the first set 25-21. The Wolverines took their first lead of the match following a Wildcat attack error at 10-9. Building upon that, Utah Valley kept the advantage the rest of the way to seal the set.
Responding in the second set, Weber State battled through tough rallies to even the match. Kills from Ashley Gneiting (Pleasant Grove, UT/Pleasant Grove HS) and Kaylie Ray helped the Wildcats pull out a 25-23 win. Set three was another back-and-forth battle, with neither side able to create much separation. Trading points late, Utah Valley used two blocks to edge out a 25-23 victory and regain control of the match.
In the fourth, Weber State fought hard to extend the match to a fifth, relying on Gneiting's performance at the net and strong blocking from Saane Munyer. The Wildcats kept it close, but Utah Valley used a late push to secure the 25-22 win and finish off the match 3-1.
