Wildcats beat Eagles 2-1 in Big Sky opener

Ogden, UT - The Weber State Wildcats women's soccer team defeated the Eastern Washington Eagles 2-1 to take the Big Sky Conference opener.
"When it comes to conference, every 3 points, every win is absolutely massive," Head Coach Kyle Christensen said. "We will learn from the mistakes and look to improve in the future."
The Wildcats put pressure on the Eagles' defensive line in the first half as Lily Blum broke through for the 'Cats in the 10th minute.
A cross from Cadence Packer set up Blum to give the 'Cats a 1-goal advantage.
Freshman Lauren Butorac's lone save in the first half came in the 26th minute as she turned away and Eastern Washington shot to keep the Eagles off the board.
In the second half, Lily Blum secured the brace off a Sayler Schlosser cross to put the team up 2-0 with 19 minutes to play.
"We definitely have another side and another level to us that we need to bring out," Blum said. "If we do that, we are a pretty hard-to-defend team."
Eastern Washington flipped the script in the second half, putting consistent pressure on the Wildcat defensive line. A shot over the net in the 71st and a diving save from Butorac in the 74th kept the Eagles off the board.
Eastern finally put one in the back of the net in the 78th minute to cut the deficit to 1.
A potential Presley Ray insurance goal was saved in the 86th minute and led to the 2-0 final score.
The 'Cats move to 7-4 on the season and are now 1-0 in conference play as they will host the Idaho Vandals on Sunday at Wildcat Soccer Field. The match will kick off at 12:00 p.m.
