Weber State wraps up weekend, defeats UC Riverside 3-1

ST. GEORGE, Utah - The Wildcats closed out the Utah Tech Tournament with a 3-1 win over UC Riverside and finished the weekend with a 2-1 record.Â
The Wildcats took off to start the match, as an 11-0 run helped the 'Cats to a 25-8 first set victory over UC Riverside.Â
The Highlanders found their rhythm in the second set, using a 5-0 run to close the gap to four points. But a late service error gave Weber State the deciding point and closed out the frame 25-20. Despite their attack dipping to 10 kills on 32 attempts with six errors, the Wildcats did just enough to stay in control and take a 2-0 lead in the match.
UC Riverside responded in the third set. The Wildcat offense struggled as the squad had eight kills on 38 attempts, with four errors (.105 percent). The Highlanders went on to post 18 kills and take the set 25-20.Â
Weber State bounced back in the decisive fourth set, claiming it 25-10. Their attack came from 14 kills on just 25 attempts with only one error for a .520 hitting percentage.Â
