Shaheed is set to be the fourth Weber State football player to play in the Super Bowl when the Seattle Seahawks play the New England Patriots on February 8.

Rashid Shaheed is heading to the Super Bowl.

The former Weber State legend will play in the Super Bowl with the Seattle Seahawks when they meet the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LX on February 8 in Santa Clara, California.

Shaheed joins a list of several former Wildcats to be a part of the Super Bowl. There have been multiple former Wildcats on Super Bowl team rosters, but Shaheed will be only the fourth to play in a Super Bowl game.

This year's matchup between the Seahawks and Patriots will feature eight players who played in the Big Sky Conference.

Shaheed was named to the Pro Bowl for the second time in his career this season. He was traded to the Seahawks from the New Orleans Saints during the season. He was the only player in the NFL to have a punt return and a kickoff return touchdown during the regular season.

During the 2025 regular season, Shaheed played in 18 games and had 59 receptions for 687 yards and two touchdowns between the Saints and Seahawks. He had a 100-yard kickoff return touchdown and a 58-yard punt return touchdown.

In the playoffs this season, he opened the divisional playoffs with a 95-yard kickoff return in the Seahawks' win over the San Francisco 49ers. He had a 51-yard reception in the NFC Championship win over the Los Angeles Rams.

Shaheed was a standout with the Wildcats from 2017-21. He is the player in Weber State history to earn All-America honors four times in a career. He also earned first-team All-Big Sky honors four times, one of only three players to ever do so.

He helped Weber State win four straight Big Sky titles from 2017-20 and reach the FCS Playoffs four times, including the semifinals in 2019.

He ended his career as the FCS all-time leader in kickoff return touchdowns with seven. He is WSU's all-time leader in career kickoff return average at 29. He played in 53 games in his Wildcat career and finished his career with 5,478 all-purpose yards, which ranks as the third most in WSU history, and is also third in career punt return yardage. He is also seventh in career receiving yards with 2,178 yards and 18 touchdowns, and ranks 10th in career receptions with 147.

There have been eight former Wildcats part of the Super Bowl, and five former Wildcats have won Super Bowl rings. Only three players have played in the Super Bowl with two starters. Shaheed is expected to join Darryl Pollard, Al Pupunu, and Paul McQuistan as the only former Wildcats to play in a Super Bowl.

The first Wildcat to play in the Super Bowl was Lee White, who was a member of the New York Jets team with Joe Namath that defeated the Baltimore Colts 16-7 in Super Bowl III following the 1968 season. White played five seasons in the NFL for New York, Los Angeles, and San Diego.

The Wildcat with the best success in the Super Bowl is Daryl Pollard, who won two Super Bowl rings with the San Francisco 49ers in 1988 and 1989. Pollard recovered a fumble in Super Bowl XXIII as the 49ers defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 20-16. The next season, he started at cornerback in Super Bowl XXIV as the 49ers defeated the Denver Broncos 55-10. Pollard played in 65 games in five years in the NFL with San Francisco and Tampa Bay.

Alfred Pupunu started for the San Diego Chargers in Super Bowl XXIX following the 1994 season. The Chargers lost to the 49ers 49-26. Pupunu started the game at tight end and had four catches for 48 yards. He also caught a two-point conversion for the final scoring play of the game, the last player in Big Sky Conference history to score a point in the Super Bowl. He played in 103 career games in nine years in the NFL with San Diego, New York Giants, Kansas City, and Detroit.

Former Weber State standout quarterback Jamie Martin, the 1991 Walter Payton Award winner, played nine years in the NFL. During the 2001 season, Martin was a part of the St. Louis Rams team that played in Super Bowl XXXVI. The Rams lost 20-17 to the New England Patriots. Martin did not play in the game but did play in 12 games for the Rams that season. He appeared in 53 career games in his nine years in the NFL with St. Louis, Jacksonville, and New Orleans.

Marcus Mailei won a Super Bowl ring as part of the 2009 New Orleans Saints team that won Super Bowl XLIV, beating the Indianapolis Colts 31-17. Mailei was signed late in the 2009 season and played in two regular season games for the Saints.

Paul McQuistan was a part of the 2013 Seattle Seahawks team that won Super Bowl XLVIII. McQuistan played in that game and played in 97 career games in eight years with the Raiders, Seahawks, and Browns.

The last Wildcat to win a Super Bowl ring was Jonah Williams, who was a member of the 2021 Los Angeles Rams team that beat the Cincinnati Bengals. Williams did not play in the game but did play in eight games during his rookie season with the Rams. He has played in 65 career games in his five-year NFL career.

Sua Opeta was part of the Philadelphia Eagles team that went to Super Bowl LVII in February 2023. Opera didn't play in the game but did play in seven regular season games with the Eagles in the 2022 season. He has played in 38 games in his NFL career.
