Dawid Scholtz named Big Sky Player of the Week

Ogden, UT — Dawid Scholtz was named the Big Sky Conference Player of the Week for his play during the UNLV Tournament over the weekend. This is the first time the true freshman from Paarl, Western Cape, South Africa has received the honor.
Scholtz went 2-1 in singles over the course of the tournament, including beating an opponent with a 1.5 UTR-point higher rating to even the match at 3-all and give the Wildcats a chance to complete the comeback against #62 UNLV.
Scholtz also picked up a win in #3 singles to help jump-start the Wildcats' first win of the season, a 5-2 decision over UC Riverside.
In doubles play, Scholtz and partner Toit Malan helped clinch the doubles point against #62 UNLV with a 6-2 victory on Court #2.
Scholtz joined the Wildcats this season by way of Paarl, Western Cape, South Africa, and is out to a 2-2 start in singles play on the young season.
The Wildcats will enjoy some time off before hitting the court again with their next match slated for Valentine's Day, February 14th. The 'Cats will head up to Spokane, Washington, to take on Gonzaga on Saturday and Cal Poly on Sunday. Both matches will begin at 3:00 p.m.
