Wildcats win first Big Sky game with 95-82 win over Hornets

Tijan Saine Jr. and Viljami Vartiainen each scored 20 points for the Wildcats.
OGDEN - Two Wildcats each scored 20 points as Weber State picked up its first Big Sky win of 2026 with a 95-82 win over Sacramento State Saturday night at the Dee Events Center.Â
The Wildcats led nearly the entire game and shot 51 percent from the field with nine 3-pointers to pick up the win.Â
The 'Cats led by as many as 16 points late in the first half and led 50-39 at halftime. Sacramento State got as close as six points midway through the second half, but the 'CAts went on a 10-3 run and never looked back.  Â
Weber State was 9 of 18 from 3-point range, and outrebounded the Hornets 42-34.Â
Four Wildcats scored in double figures, with two scoring 20 points each.Â
In just his second game back after an injury, Viljami Vartiainen scored 20 points with a season-high six 3-pointers. He made his first four 3-point attempts and finished 6 of 8 from 3-point range. He also had five rebounds and two assists.
Tijan Saine Jr. scored 20 points and also had four steals, three rebounds, and three assists.
Nigel Burris, playing in his 100th career college game, added 14 points off the bench and was 5 of 7 from the field. He also had six rebounds and two steals.Â
Jace Whiting added 11 points and six rebounds. Edwin Suarez Jr. had nine points and a team-high eight rebounds.  Â
The 95 points are the most by the Wildcats in a Big Sky game in four seasons.Â
Mikey Williams had 26 points for Sacramento State.Â
Weber State now hits the road for the first time in Big Sky play this week as they play at Northern Arizona on Thursday and at Northern Colorado on Saturday.Â
