Weber State cross country returns to competition Friday in Pocatello
The Weber State men's and women's cross country teams return to competition Friday as the Wildcats travel to Pocatello, Idaho, for the Idaho State Invitational.
The women's race is scheduled for 11 a.m., followed by the men's race at noon at Idaho State's Centennial Cross Country Course.
Weber State enters Friday's meet after competing at the Indiana State John McNichols Invitational on Sept. 19. The Wildcats continued to show strong pack performances in the larger championship field, with five Weber State women finishing within 40.5 seconds of one another in the 6,000-meter race.
Saga Hagelin led the women's team with a time of 21:55.4, followed closely by Hailey Day at 21:58.7. Hannah Bailey finished in 22:06.0, Frances Hudson crossed in 22:16.7 and Lauren Thornley rounded out the Wildcats' top five in 22:35.9.
On the men's side, Tyler Spencer led Weber State in the 8K championship race with a time of 25:03.5. Raivio Manzer followed at 25:10.2, while Jess Christiansen and Evan Harris finished in 25:20.7 and 25:26.2, respectively. TJ Warnick rounded out the Wildcats' top five at 26:18.6.
The close results continued a strong theme from the Wildcats' season-opening Utah State Alumni Challenge, where both the men's and women's teams earned second-place finishes.
Friday's meet gives both squads another opportunity to build on their early-season performances and continue developing their packs as they move closer to the championship portion of the schedule.
Following the Idaho State Invitational, Weber State will compete in the Bill Dellinger Invitational and CSI Invitational on Oct. 9 before heading to the Big Sky Championships on Oct. 30.
