Wildcats Hold On for Lady Thunderbird Championship TItle

ST GEORGE, Utah – The Wildcats shot a 1-over par score of 289 on Sunday to hold on to the lead of the Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird Invitational, taking home the team championship of the Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird Invitational.
The Wildcats wrapped up the 54-hole event with a total score of 2-over par 866. WSU opened the tournament with a score of 296 on Friday and then surged to the lead with a program record-tying 7-under par 281 on Saturday.
Stetson made an early run in Sunday's final round before the Wildcats rebounded with a strong back nine to post the best score of the field for the second-straight day. WSU ended up increasing its lead by one shot over the final round, finishing five shots ahead of Stetson. Wyoming came in third at 884 for the tournament.
"I'm really excited with how we played this week," said WSU head coach Rich Friend. "This is a great win for us, beating a
Jade Gruher, Emily Song and Cala Korman each shot 1-under par scores of 71 on Sunday to lead the 'Cats.
Gruher finished in a team-best tie for third place, posting a 1-under par total of 215 on rounds of 76, 68 and 71. She carded eight birdies and an eagle over her 54 holes.
Song finished alone in sixth place at 2-over par 218 on rounds of 76, 71 and 71 with seven birdies on her tournament card, while Korman came home in eighth place, shooting a 4-over par 220 on scores of 78, 71 and 71. She carded a team-best 12 birdies for the event, with four coming in each round.
Sofia Fuenmayor finished in a tie for ninth place to give the Wildcats four players inside the top-10, shooting 74-71-76 for a 5-over par 221, while recording seven birdies.
Braylon Bayer, who held the individual lead after 18 holes on a first-day 2-under par 70, dropped back to finish in a tie for 34th place at 234.
Four individuals competed for Weber State as individuals in the tournament, led by Adley Nelson, who shot rounds of 77, 76 and 72 for a 9-over par total of 225 to tie for 16th overall.
Brynn Bischoff finished in 46th place with a total of 243, while Erika Kobayashi shot 249 to tie for 51st and Rachel Lillywhite finished in a tie for 53rd place at 250.
Wyoming's Kiley Reisner and Stetson's Isaki Sakashita tied for individual medalist honors, coming in one shot ahead of Gruher with 2-under par totals of 214.
