Wildcats Tie for Third at Red Rocks Invitational

SEDONA, Ariz. – The Weber State women's golf team finished off the Red Rocks Invitational at Oakcreek Country Club on Sunday, shooting an even par 288 to move up into a tie for third place.
"It's been a good week for us with a win and now a third place," said WSU head coach Rich Friend. "This was a real quality field and a really good finish for our team. I'm really proud and happy for them."
The Wildcats' even-par final round added to rounds of 286 and 299 over the first two days, giving the team a 54-hole total of 9-over par 873. The third place comes on the heels of the Wildcats taking the team title at the Thunderbird Invitational, giving the team two top-three finishes in the last week.
Tournament-host Northern Arizona took the team title, shooting a 10-under par 854 for a seven-shot win over second place Gonzaga. Grand Canyon finished in the third place tie with the Wildcats at 873.
Weber State was led by Sofia Fuenmayor, who bookended a second round 74 with 3-under par rounds of 69 on both Friday and Sunday for a 4-under par total of 212 to finish two shots off the lead in a tie for third place overall. Fuenmayor carded 15 total birdies over the event, with six coming in each of her rounds of 69. The tie for third was a career-best finish for the senior from Beaverton, Ore., beating her previous best of seventh place, which she had done twice.
Jade Gruher moved up seven spots on the final day to join Fuenmayor in the top-10, finishing alone in sixth place at 1-under par 215 on rounds of 72, 74 and 69. Gruher posted 13 birdies for the tournament, with six coming in her opening round and another five to finish on Sunday.
Cala Korman gave the Wildcats three players in the top-20, shooting rounds of 72, 74 and 76 to finish in a tie for 18th place at 6-over par 222.
Braylyn Bayer moved up four spots on Sunday to tie for 24th place at 10-over par 226 on rounds of 73, 79 and 74, while Emily Song tied for 35th place at 14-over par 230 on rounds of 76, 77 and 77.
Individual Adley Nelson turned in another solid performance, shooting a 7-over par total of 223 to finish alone in 21st place. Nelson opened the tournament with a 3-under par total of 69 on Friday and added rounds of 76 and 78.
Gonzaga's Grace Lee and NAU's Amy Hodgkins each shot 6-under par totals of 210 to tie for individual medalist honors.
