Wildcats battle Utah to scoreless draw in season opener

Lauren Butorac recorded seven saves. Home opener is Sunday night.
Weber State opened the 2026 soccer season with a 0-0 draw against Utah Wednesday night at Ute Field in Salt Lake City.
Sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Butorac recorded seven saves as the Wildcats held the Utes scoreless over 90 minutes. Utah finished with 17 shots, including seven on goal. Weber State had four shots with two on frame.
Utah put its first two shots on goal in the 12th and 13th minutes, with Butorac making saves on both attempts. Weber State's first shot on goal came in the 21st minute when Oakley Anderson's attempt was saved by Utah goalkeeper Anna Solomon.
Lily Blum added a shot in the 37th minute as the teams went to halftime scoreless. Utah held a 5-2 advantage in shots in the opening half, while Weber State had two corner kicks.
The Wildcats had a pair of early opportunities in the second half. Simone Packer had a shot in the 50th minute before Weber State earned back-to-back corner kicks. Blum put another shot on goal in the 60th minute, but Utah made the save.
Utah recorded 12 shots in the second half, with Butorac making five saves. She stopped attempts in the 53rd and 61st minutes before making two more saves in the closing minutes, including stops in the 87th and 89th minutes to preserve the shutout.
Blum led Weber State with two shots, including one on goal, while Anderson had the Wildcats' other shot on target. Weber State finished with five corner kicks to Utah's eight.
Weber State now returns home for the home opener at Wildcat Soccer Field on Sunday night, hosting Boise State at 6 p.m.Â
