OGDEN, Utah — The Weber State women's soccer team has one final match in the regular season, and the Wildcats have an opportunity to make it a memorable one. Weber State hosts Idaho State Thursday at 1 p.m. at Wildcat Soccer Field, with a victory securing the Big Sky Conference regular season championship.
The Wildcats enter the regular-season finale at 10-6-2 overall and 6-1-1 in Big Sky play, sitting alone at the top of the conference standings with 19 points. Northern Colorado sits in second place with 17 points, making Thursday's matchup a chance for Weber State to claim the regular season title outright with a win.
Weber State comes into Thursday riding a three-game winning streak, including consecutive shutout victories over Montana and Northern Arizona. The Wildcats most recently defeated Northern Arizona 2-0 Sunday afternoon, earning another important three points in conference play.
Weber State also had two players recognized among the conference's top performers, as Simone Packer was nominated for Big Sky Co-Offensive Player of the week and Isabella Sackett was nominated for Big Sky Defensive Player of the week. The nominations highlight the impact both players have made throughout the Wildcats' conference campaign.
Lily Blum opened the scoring against the Lumberjacks just three minutes into the match, finding the back of the net off an assist from Oakley Anderson. Simone Packer added an insurance goal in the 63rd minute with an assist from Sayler Schlosser, helping Weber State secure its second consecutive shutout.
Blum leads the Wildcats' offensive attack with 12 goals on the season, while Packer has continued to contribute key goals during the team's recent winning streak. Weber State has scored seven goals across its last three matches while allowing just one.
Idaho State enters Thursday's matchup at 4-8-5 overall and 2-3-3 in Big Sky play. The Bengals are currently sixth in the conference standings and are also competing for a spot in the Big Sky Championship tournament. Idaho State is coming off a 1-0 loss to Northern Colorado on Sunday.
Thursday's match marks the final opportunity for the Wildcats to secure the regular-season championship before turning their attention to the Big Sky Conference tournament, scheduled for Nov. 11-15 in Missoula, Montana.
Head coach Kyle Christensen emphasized the importance of every remaining result as the Wildcats continued their push toward the conference championship.
Every result is massive, and it keeps us in the hunt to win the regular season, Christensen said.
With the regular-season title within reach, Weber State will look to finish its conference schedule strong and bring the championship home in front of its fans at Wildcat Soccer Field.
