Weber State celebrates its seniors with a 2-1 victory over Northern Colorado
OGDEN, Utah — Weber State women's soccer rallied for a 2-1 victory over Northern Colorado Thursday night at Wildcat Soccer Field, earning three important Big Sky Conference points on Senior Night.
The Wildcats fell behind early when Northern Colorado found the back of the net in the 21st minute. Weber State responded before halftime, with Lily Blum leveling the match in the 40th minute.
Blum's goal came off an assist from Bonnie Buswell and marked her 11th goal of the season, which currently leads the Big Sky Conference.
Weber State carried that momentum into the second half, taking the lead just over three minutes after halftime. Simone Packer found the net in the 49th minute off an assist from Oakley Anderson to put the Wildcats ahead 2-1.
The Wildcats continued to pressure the Bears throughout the remainder of the match, finishing with 15 shots and 10 shots on goal. Northern Colorado was limited to just four shots, with three finding the frame.
Blum led Weber State with three shots, all three on goal, while Packer recorded the team's high four shots with three on target. Sayler Schlosser added four shots and two on goal, while Cloe Baugh finished with two shots and one on goal. Anderson and Buswell each recorded a shot on goal in addition to their assists.
Lauren Butorac made two saves in goal to help the Wildcats hold onto the lead and secure the Senior Night victory.
The win gives Weber State its ninth victory of the season and moves the Wildcats to 5-1-1 in Big Sky play with two regular season matches remaining.
The victory made for a memorable Senior Night for Weber State's four seniors: Maya Cordova, Laney Scothern, Emery Jacobs and Cici Garcia, who were honored before the match for their contributions to the Wildcat program.
Following the match, head coach Kyle Christensen summed up the team's performance simply: "This is the result we were looking for."
Weber State will remain home Sunday, Nov. 1, when it hosts Northern Arizona at 1 p.m. at Wildcat Soccer Field.
