Weber State hosts Northern Arizona Sunday with a chance to clinch the Big Sky regular season title

OGDEN, Utah — The Weber State women's soccer team returns to Wildcat Soccer Field Sunday with the Big Sky Conference regular season title within reach, hosting Northern Arizona at 1 p.m. MT.

The Wildcats enter Sunday's matchup in first place in the Big Sky standings at 5-1-1 with 16 points, one point ahead of Northern Arizona. With a victory over the Lumberjacks, Weber State would clinch the regular-season championship with one match still remaining.

Weber State enters the match riding a two game winning streak after earning victories over Montana and Northern Colorado. The Wildcats rallied past Northern Colorado 2-1 on Thursday night for a Senior Night victory, scoring twice after falling behind early.

Lily Blum leveled the match in the 40th minute with her Big Sky leading 11th goal of the season, assisted by Bonnie Buswell. Simone Packer then scored just over three minutes into the second half off an assist from Oakley Anderson to give Weber State the lead.

The Wildcats finished the match with 15 shots and 10 shots on goal while limiting Northern Colorado to just four shots. Lauren Butorac made two saves to help Weber State secure the three points.

Northern Arizona enters Sunday in second place at 4-0-3 in Big Sky play and 8-4-5 overall. The Lumberjacks have been one of the conference's most consistent teams this season, remaining unbeaten in league play. NAU had been on a nine match unbeaten streak entering Thursday's match at Idaho State.

Sunday's matchup will be the first of two remaining regular season games for the Wildcats. Following the contest against Northern Arizona, Weber State will close the regular season at home against Idaho State on Thursday, Nov. 5.

With the Big Sky regular season championship within reach, the Wildcats will look to protect their position at the top of the standings and finish the regular season with a statement victory on their home field.
