Lily Blum and Simone Packer find the net as Weber State earns another crucial Big Sky victory at home

OGDEN, Utah — Despite pouring rain throughout the entire match, the Weber State women's soccer team battled through the conditions and earned a 2-0 victory over Northern Arizona Sunday afternoon at Wildcat Soccer Field.

The Wildcats wasted little time taking control of the match, as Lily Blum found the back of the net just three minutes into the game. Blum's goal came at the 3:31 mark off an assist from Oakley Anderson, giving Weber State an early 1-0 advantage.

Weber State continued to pressure the Lumberjacks throughout the first half, finishing the match with 17 shots and seven shots on goal. Blum led the Wildcats with six shots and three on frame, while Simone Packer added three shots.

The Wildcats held onto their one goal advantage through halftime before adding an insurance goal in the second half. Packer found the back of the net in the 63rd minute off an assist from Sayler Schlosser, extending Weber State's lead to 2-0.

The conditions made for a challenging afternoon, with rain pouring throughout the entire match and leaving the field drenched. Weber State adjusted its approach and continued to create opportunities despite the difficult conditions.

"It was an ugly game, that field was drenched," head coach Kyle Christensen said. "We approached it well, we were more direct than we usually are and I think it paid off in the end."

Weber State's defense held strong through the remainder of the match, limiting Northern Arizona's opportunities and securing the shutout. Lauren Butorac made two saves in goal to record the clean sheet.

Isabelle Dahl and Anderson each recorded a shot on goal, while Harlee Thomas and Schlosser each added two shots. Cloe Baugh also recorded a shot for the Wildcats.

The victory moves Weber State to 10-6-2 overall and 6-1-1 in Big Sky Conference play, keeping the Wildcats alone at the top of the conference standings with one regular season match remaining.

"It was a great result for the team at this time of year," Christensen said. "Every result is massive, and it keeps us in the hunt to win the regular season. There were so many good performances by so many individuals. We are super happy with the effort and now we look forward to hopefully finishing the job on Thursday."

The Wildcats will close out the regular season at home Thursday, Nov. 5, when they host Idaho State at 1 p.m. at Wildcat Soccer Field.
