Weber State sweeps Westminster in exhibition match

Wildcats host Purple and White scrimmage on Monday, August 24 before regular season begins.
Weber State volleyball posted a 4-0 sweep over Westminster in an exhibition match Friday night at the Swenson Gym.Â
The Wildcats won the first three sets 25-17, 25-13 and 25-9. The two teams then played a fourth set, which the Wildcats won 25-21.Â
In the three set match, Weber State posted 40 kills and a .312 hitting percentage. The Wildcats also recorded 11 team blocks. Full stats of the fourth set were not available.Â
In the three sets, Rose Moore, a preseason All-Big Sky selection, led the 'Cats with 11 kills and hit .375 with just two errors on 24 attacks. Moore also had three block assists and seven digs.Â
Maggie Larsen added six kills, while Tennille Gonder finished with six kills and hit .364. Sophia Sparrow had five kills on eight attacks and Ziya Munyer added four kills and four block assists.
Weber State hit .237 in the opening set and used a 10-3 run to turn a 6-5 advantage into a 16-8 lead. Larsen had six kills in the set as the Wildcats took the opener 25-17.
The Wildcats jumped out to an 8-3 lead in the second set and extended the advantage to 13-6. Weber State later scored four straight points to take a 19-8 lead and went on to win the set 25-13. Moore had five kills in the set as the Wildcats hit .312.
Weber State had its best offensive set of the match in the third, totaling 12 kills with just one attack error for a .423 hitting percentage. The Wildcats led 10-3 before a 10-2 run pushed the advantage to 20-7.
Marly Pratt totaled a team-high 12 digs, while Hailee Garcia and Addison Eastwood each had 10 assists. Morgan Pratt added eight assists. Weber State had 38 assists and 40 digs in the match.
Friday's match was the second of two exhibition matches, plus an intra-squad scrimmage.Â
The Wildcats will host the Purple and White Scrimmage on Monday, August 24 at 6 p.m. Admission is free.Â
Head coach Jeremiah Larsen and Weber State open the regular season August 28-30, hosting the Wildcat Invitational.
WSU will play San Francisco, San Jose State, and Belmont in the tournament.Â
During the regular season, the 'Cats will also host Utah State and BYU, before a full Big Sky schedule.Â
