Wildcats Close Non-Conference Play With a 3-1 Win

Cadence Packer and Lily Blum score as Weber State earns a three-goal second half victory
OGDEN, Utah — Weber State soccer closed out its non-conference schedule in style Friday night, defeating Colorado State 3-1 at Wildcat Soccer Field.
The Wildcats opened the scoring early in the second half when Cadence Packer found the back of the net at 49:12 to give Weber State a 1-0 lead.
Colorado State answered just over seven minutes later, scoring at 56:29 to even the match. Weber State responded immediately, regaining the lead just 24 seconds later when a Colorado State own goal put the Wildcats back in front, 2-1.
Lily Blum added another goal at 59:49, giving Weber State a 3-1 advantage. The goal capped a three-goal stretch in less than 11 minutes and helped the Wildcats secure the victory.
Blum led Weber State with three shots, including one on goal. Cici Garcia added two shots with one on frame, while Cloe Baugh recorded two shots and one on goal. Simone Packer and Cadence Packer each put a shot on goal, while Nellie Brooks also recorded a shot.
Weber State finished with 11 shots, including five on goal, while Colorado State recorded nine shots and seven on frame.
In goal, Lauren Butorac made six saves to help preserve the Wildcats' 3-1 victory.
I'm super proud of the result, head coach Kyle Christensen said. It was a great performance which will help us gain momentum going into conference.
Christensen also highlighted the Wildcats' ability to maintain their intensity throughout the match.
It was our first performance that we kept the intensity and pressure the entire 90 minutes, Christensen said.
With non-conference play now complete, Weber State will turn its attention to Big Sky Conference play. The Wildcats open conference action on the road at Idaho before traveling to Eastern Washington.
Now we are excited to get back and train to prepare for the most important part of the season, which is conference play, Christensen said. Our first conference games are away at Idaho and Eastern Washington away from home. It'll be a real test to be away from home for the first two games.
Weber State improves to 4-5-1 on the season and will open Big Sky play on the road.
