The 2024 season was the eighth season for Joe Dale on the Weber State football coaching staff.

In December 2024, he was named the full Defensive Coordinator for the Wildcats. He spent the previous four seasons as the Co-Defensive Coordinator. He also coaches the Wildcat safeties.

From 2021-24, Dale was the Co-Defensive Coordinator for the Wildcats and helped Weber State to one of the top defenses in the Big Sky Conference and FCS football.

Dale joined the Weber State staff as an assistant coach in March 2018.

During his time at Weber State, he has helped lead the Wildcats to three Big Sky titles and four trips to the FCS Playoffs, including the semifinals in 2019.

Dale has helped coach the Wildcat defense, which has been one of the best in the country in several seasons. Weber State has been at or near the top of the Big Sky in total defense, scoring defense, rushing defense, and interceptions in multiple seasons. He has also spent time as the co-Special Teams Coordinator coaching the WSU kick returners.

With the Wildcats, he has coached one All-American and several players that have earned All-Big Sky honors.

In the 2024 season, Dale coached three defensive players to All-Big Sky honors. In 2023, Dale helped lead Weber State to a 6-5 overall finish, WSU’s ninth straight winning season. Weber State closed the season with three straight wins, including a win over No. 4 ranked Idaho. He also coached Naseme Colvin to All-Big Sky honorable mention honors.

Senior safety Preston Smith earned All-America honors during the spring 2021 season. Desmond Williams twice earned All-Big Sky honors as a safety.

In 2019, Dale coached Smith to third-team All-Big Sky honors and in 2018, he coached Jawian Harrison Jr. and Jordan Preator to first-team honors.

During the spring 2021 season, Weber State finished 5-1 and captured its fourth straight conference title, including the first outright title in school history with a perfect 5-0 Big Sky record. The Wildcats were ranked as high as second in the nation during the season, the highest ranking in school history.

Dale came to Weber State in March 2018 after spending the previous two seasons as an assistant coach at Minot State University in Minot, North Dakota, where he coached the defensive backs and was the special teams coordinator.

A native of Irving, Texas, Dale played football at the University of Utah from 2006-09. He was a four-year letterwinner and started at safety in every game of his last two seasons with the Utes.

He played in 47 career games at Utah and started in 27 games. He was named the Defensive MVP of the 2007 Poinsettia Bowl and had five career interceptions. He played in four bowl games and was part of the 2008 team that went undefeated and won the Sugar Bowl.

Following his career at Utah, he coached for three seasons at Madison High School in Rexburg, Idaho. He then spent the 2014 and 2015 seasons as a graduate assistant at Utah, working with all aspects of the team, including recruiting.

Dale graduated from Utah in 2010 with a degree in Sports Management. He and his wife Kaylee have four children: a son Jayden and daughters Brielle, Kenzli and Karis.
