9/27/2025 11:38:00 PM | Football

Weber State has a bye week next week before hosting Sacramento State on October 11.

DAVIS, Calif - Weber State dropped its Big Sky Conference opener, falling 34–12 to eighth-ranked UC Davis late Saturday night at UC Davis Health Stadium.

After a scoreless first quarter, Weber State struck first when Sloan Calder connected on a 33-yard field goal early in the second to give the Wildcats a 3–0 lead. But it was all UC Davis after that as the Aggies scored the next 17 points before halftime and led 17-3 at the break.

Calder added his second field goal of the night from 29 yards out midway through the third quarter, but UC Davis continued to build its lead with two more touchdowns. The Wildcats added their lone touchdown late in the game as Dijon Jennings found Marcus Chretien on an 11-yard pass to close out the scoring.

Weber State finished with 313 yards of total offense, including 138 on the ground and 175 through the air, and held the ball for more than 34 minutes. The Wildcats had 17 first downs compared to 21 for the Aggies.

Individually, Jackson Gilkey led WSU with 138 passing yards and rushed for 57 yards before leaving the game in the fourth quarter with an injury. Jennings was 2-of-2 for 37 yards and a touchdown. Davion Godley rushed for 60 yards on 19 carries and added 29 receiving yards for a team-high 89 all-purpose yards. Jayleen Record totaled 81 all-purpose yards, including 57 on kickoff returns.

Defensively, Mayson Hitchens and Sione Hala each had six tackles to lead the Wildcats, while Matt Herron and Kevin Johnson each recorded a sack.

The Wildcats are 2-3 on the season and have a bye week next week before returning home for three of the next four games. WSU will host Sacramento State on October 11 in the annual Homecoming game at Weber State.
