Sacramento State beat Weber State 55-27.
The game was delayed by than one hour and 45 minutes due to lightning in the area and didn't start until 7:45 p.m. Most of the game was played in a torrential downpour.Â
Sacramento State dominated the game on the ground as the Hornets rushed for 397 yards and had seven rushing touchdowns. The Hornets had three running backs run for over 100 yards each, and totaled 460 yards of offense. Â
Weber State had 301 yards of total offense, including 157 through the air and 144 on the ground.Â
Weber State struck first when senior kicker Sloan Calder drilled a career-long 52-yard field goal midway through the opening quarter to give the Wildcats an early 3–0 lead. Sacramento State answered quickly, capping an 11-play drive with a 10-yard touchdown run to take a 7–3 lead after the first quarter.
The Hornets controlled the second quarter, finding the end zone three times on the ground. Weber State had a five-yard touchdown run by Dijon Jennings to complete a 12-play, 75-yard drive that cut the deficit to 21–10. Sacramento State led 28–10 at halftime.
The Hornets extended their lead early in the third quarter with another rushing touchdown. Calder connected again from long range with a 48-yard field goal, and Jennings later found Chauncey Sylvester on a 23-yard touchdown strike to bring the Wildcats within 35–20.
In the fourth quarter, Sylvester added a five-yard touchdown run, but Sacramento State sealed the game with a 99-yard kickoff return from Rodney Hammond Jr. and a late 24-yard touchdown.Â
In his first career start, Dijon Jennings finished 16-of-28 passing for 157 yards and one touchdown, while adding a rushing score.Â
Sylvester led all Wildcat rushers with 83 yards on 17 carries and added 54 receiving yards, giving him 137 all-purpose yards and two total touchdowns. Davion Godley contributed 56 rushing yards and three receptions for 9 yards, while Kelton Wafer hauled in two passes for 30 yards.Â
Defensively, Trevian Tribble and Angel King each recorded nine tackles, while Matt Herron and Montae Pate added seven apiece.
The game was the final scheduled meeting between the two schools as Sacramento State will leave the Big Sky Conference after this season.
Weber State returns to the road next Saturday at Portland State in a 3 p.m. Mountain time kickoff.Â
