The 2024 season was the fifth year for Matty Ah You as an assistant coach at Weber State where he coaches the Wildcat linebackers. He joined the Wildcat staff in March 2020. 

He has coached two All-Americans, one conference MVP and four players to All-Big Sky honors in his four seasons with the Wildcats. 

In 2023, Ah You helped lead Weber State to a 6-5 overall finish, WSU’s ninth straight winning season. Weber State closed the season with three straight wins, including a win over No. 4 ranked Idaho. He also coached Naseme Colvin to All-Big Sky honorable mention honors. 

He coached Winston Reid to multiple All-America honors and first-team All-Big Sky honors. Reid was one of the top defensive players in the nation. Ah You also coached Jack Kelly to first-team All-Big Sky honors after he led the Big Sky in sacks. 

During the 2022 season, Ah You helped lead WSU to another 10-win season, including an FBS win over Utah State. The Wildcat defense again ranked near the top in the nation in several statistical categories. He coached Winston Reid to All-America honors and first-team All-Big Sky honors. Reid was also a finalist for the Buck Buchanan Award, given to the nation’s top defensive player. 

Ah You joined the WSU staff in March 2020. During his first season at Weber State, the spring 2021 season, WSU finished 5-1 and captured its fourth straight conference title, including the first outright title in school history with a perfect 5-0 Big Sky record. The Wildcats were ranked as high as second in the nation during the season, the highest ranking in school history.    

During the season, Ah You coached two Wildcats to All-Big Sky honors and one All-American. Senior linebacker Conner Mortensen earned All-America honors and was named the Big Sky Defensive MVP. Sherwin Lavaka also earned All-Big Sky honors. 

In the fall of 2021, Mortensen again earned first-team All-Big Sky honors and Lavaka earned honorable mention honors. 

Ah You came to Weber State after coaching stops at Utah State, Oregon State and BYU. He was a defensive graduate assistant at Utah State from 2015-16, then spent the 2017 season as a graduate assistant coaching linebackers at Oregon State. He was a defensive analyst at BYU during the 2018 and 2019 seasons. 

He played college football at BYU where he played in 25 games over three seasons from 2003-2008, recording 67 total tackles. Ah You transferred to Utah State for his senior season but did not play due to injury.  

Ah You served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from 2006-08. 

He graduated from BYU in 2010 with a degree in Sociology and also earned a Master of Public Administration from National University. 

Following his college career, he spent three seasons as a police officer for the Santa Ana Police Department and the Los Angeles County Sheriff.  

Ah You's brother CJ played six seasons in the NFL and coached at Oklahoma and Vanderbilt before becoming the defensive line coach for the XFL’s New York Guardians. Another brother, Jasen, is the recruiting coordinator at BYU. 

He is a native of Rancho Cucamonga, California but attended high school at Lone Peak High School in Utah where he was an honor roll student, was named the Region 7 Defensive MVP and earned first-team all-state honors at linebacker and fullback. 

He is married to Kalynne Madsen and the couple has four children, Jayda, MaeLia, Cruz, and Slater. 

His brother C.J. Ah You played in the NFL and is the outside linebacker coach at Texas Tech. His brother Jasen is an Assistant Athletic Director at BYU.
