Quinton Ganther is in his seventh season as an assistant coach at Weber State. Ganther is a former University of Utah and NFL running back and coaches the running backs for the Wildcats.
He is also Weber State’s pro liaison and works directly with NFL and professional scouts.

Ganther has helped lead Weber State to three-straight Big Sky titles and four-straight trips to the FCS Playoffs, including the semifinals in 2019. Weber State has also finished in the top 10 in the nation each of the last three seasons.

In 2019, as the Wildcats won their third-straight title, Ganther coached two first-team All-Big Sky selections. Sophomore Josh Davis earned All-American honors and first-team all-conference honors for the second-straight year. Fullback Clay Moss also earned first-team All-Big Sky honors.

In 2018, the Wildcats repeated as Big Sky champions and again advanced to the FCS Quarterfinals. Ganther coached Davis to a historic and record-setting season. Davis won the Jerry Rice Award as the National Freshman of the Year, the first Weber State player to ever win the honor. He also was named the Utah Male Collegiate Athlete of the Year and earned All-America honors and first-team All-Big Sky honors.

Senior Treshawn Garrett also earned third-team all-conference honors.

In 2017, Brady May and Garrett both earned Big Sky All-Conference honors under Ganther’s tutelage.

In 2016, Ganther helped lead Weber State to a 7-5 record, a third-place finish in the Big Sky Conference and WSU’s first trip to the FCS Playoffs in seven years. Senior fullback Cory Thomson earned third-team All-Big Sky honors.

In 2015, he was part of the Wildcat team that finished 6-5 and coached the group of WSU running backs that was one of the best rushing groups in the Big Sky. Two running backs, Eric Wilkes and Cory Thomson earned Big Sky All-Conference honors.

Ganther joined the Weber State coaching staff in December 2013 with head coach Jay Hill. Prior to joining the Wildcats, he did a minority internship with the Seahawks in 2013, where he assisted in coaching the running backs.

Ganther played two seasons for Utah and twice earned All-Mountain West Conference honors with the Utes. As a junior in 2004, he rushed for 654 yards and was part of the Utah team that finished 12-0 and won the Fiesta Bowl. As a senior in 2005, he rushed for 1,120 yards and seven touchdowns. Jay Hill was an assistant coach with the Utes during Ganther’s career.

After his collegiate career, Ganther was drafted in the seventh round of the 2006 NFL Draft by the Tennessee Titans. He went on to play six years in the NFL, appearing in 36 career games. He rushed for 280 career yards and three touchdowns and spent time playing for the Titans, Washington Redskins, Seattle Seahawks and Buffalo Bills.

Following his playing career, Ganther returned to Utah where he spent the 2012 season as a student assistant coach with the Utes. He also completed his bachelor’s degree in Sociology in 2012 at Utah.
Ganther was born July 15, 1984, in Oakland, Calif. Prior to his Utah career, he spent two seasons at Citrus Junior College and earned Junior College All-American honors in 2003. During his career, he set Citrus College single-season and career rushing and all-purpose records.
