 Mark Mattos was a four-year starter and letterwinner during one of the most storied times in Weber State basketball. As the Wildcats’ 6-foot-0 point guard, the feisty Mattos guided WSU to a 90-30 record over four seasons. He played on three Big Sky Conference championship teams, and appeared in the NCAA Tournament three times as well.
 Mattos, a native of San Marcos, California, holds the Weber State career record for assists with 642, averaging 5.8 per game. He also owned the single-season assists mark of 213 (1977), and set a single-game record of 17 vs. Montana State in 1997. Mattos set a Dee Events Center record with 14 assists vs. Nevada in 1979.
 Mattos earned a $5,000 NCAA Post-Graduate Scholarship. As the Weber State Academic Co-Scholar-Athlete of the Year, he graduated from the school cum laude in zoology, with minors in mathematics and chemistry. He graduated from the University of Utah medical school, and became a vascular surgeon. He resides in Grosse Point, Michigan, and is also a professor at Wayne State University.
