Weber State Defeats Eastern Washington, 74-64, In Big Sky Conference Play

OGDEN, Utah -- Weber State placed four players in double figure scoring led by DEZMON HARRIS' 17 points, as the Wildcats captured their second straight home court win in Big Sky Conference play with a 74-64 win over the Eastern Washington University Eagles.
The win spoiled the return of former WSU assistant coach, now EWU head coach, KIRK EARLYWINE. Earlywine spent seven seasons as a Wildcat assistant under head coach Joe Cravens.
Eastern's only lead was 2-0 on a jumper by center BRANDON MOORE just 69 seconds into the game. The Wildcats then put together a 19-4 scoring run taking a 19-6 lead with 9:31 remaining and established the largest lead of the game at half time, 42-26 on a three-pointer by HARRIS with four seconds left.
The Eagles slowly clawed their way back to within seven (54-47) on a long three-point shot by MILAN STANOJEVIC at the 10:26 mark. Exactly five minutes later WSU center STEVE PANOS made good a short jumper putting the ?Cats up by 13 at 64-51.
The Eagles made another run at the Wildcats creeping to within nine at 73-64 on a three-pointer by ADRIS DeLEON with 51 seconds left.
DEZMON HARRIS made one of two free throws with 34 seconds left and following an Eagle turnover the Wildcats held the ball for the final 30 seconds.
DAVIIN DAVIS had another solid outing for the Wildcats with 16 points, five rebounds, three assists, a blocked shot and two steals. DAVIS scored a career high 23 points on Thursday in the home court win over Portland State.
TYLER BILLINGS came off the bench to score 11 points and STEVE PANOS chipped in with 10. ARTURAS VALEIKA continued in his scoring woes scoring just four points, but he did grab a game high 13 rebounds and had a career high five assists. VALEIKA, the team's leading scorer, has scored just 12 total points in the last three games which has dropped his overall scoring average to just 9.9 points per game. On the flip side, he's pulled down 32 rebounds (10.66 rpg) in those three contests.
Eastern Washington falls to 7-12 overall and 2-3 in Big Sky Conference play. Weber State is now 7-8 overall and 2-1 in Big Sky action. Next up for the Wildcats is the always treacherous Montana swing. The Wildcats play at Montana State on Thursday, January 17 at 7:05 p.m. (MST), then face the University of Montana Grizzlies on Sunday, January 20 at 2:05 p.m. (MST) on Altitude TV.
