OGDEN, Utah -- The Weber State women's soccer team was unable to garner the three points that would have clinched the Big Sky Conference regular season title on Saturday at Wildcat Soccer Field. Instead, the 'Cats came away without a result, falling 1-0 to Sacramento State. The loss puts the 'Cats in danger of falling all the way to third place in the league table.
Elece McBride provided all the offense the Hornets would need in the 31st minute when she claimed a poorly cleared ball from the WSU defense and fired a shot to the upper right corner of the net from the top of the box.
The Wildcats pressed for an equalizer and had several chances late in both halves, but could not find the net. Sacramento State, playing for its playoff life, held strong defensively, and goalkeeper Savannah Abercrombie posted five saves to preserve the shutout.
The Wildcats fell to 7-8-2 overall and 4-2-0 in Big Sky play, while Sacramento State improved to 9-8-1 and 3-3-0 in the conference. WSU remains at 12 points in the standings, with Northern Arizona and Portland State just behind at 10 points. The Vikings play Idaho State in Pocatello, ID on Saturday at 1:00 p.m., while Northern Arizona plays at Montana on Sunday.
