Volleyball Drops 3-2 Match at Sacramento State

The Weber State volleyball team lost a tough five-set match at Sacramento State Saturday night in their first conference road match of the season. The Hornets won the match 23-25, 25-21, 25-23, 19-24, 15-11 as the Wildcats fell to 1-3 in conference action and 10-8 overall.
WSU won the first set for the ninth time this season, but the Hornets came back to win the second and third sets and take a 2-1 lead before the ?Cats posted a strong fourth set to tie the match up.
The Wildcats jumped out to a 7-3 lead in the deciding fifth set but the Hornets proceeded to score six straight points and took the lead at 9-7. Chelsea Bair then had a kill to cut the lead to 9-8 but Sacramento State then scored the next three points, held a 12-8 lead and went on the seal with match with the 15-11 win in the fifth set. The Hornets had 13 kills in the fifth set and hit .550.
Senior Leah Burmeister led the ?Cats with her fourth straight double-double, finishing with 16 kills and 20 digs, both season-highs. She was one of four players in double-figures in kills for the Wildcats. Bair finished the night with 14 kills, the 17th straight match she has scored in double digits in kills. She also posted a season-high 21 digs for the Wildcats.
Brittney Bisaillon had 14 kills and eight blocks and Amy Dunford posted a career-high ten kills for the ?Cats.
Sacramento State had 73 kills compared to 62 for Weber State and also out hit the ?Cats .240 to .227. The Wildcats posted a season-high 86 digs in the match, led by junior Caitlyn Anderson who had a match-high 24. WSU also posted 13.5 blocks in the match and had nine aces, but also gave up eight service errors.
Sacramento State improved to 2-2 in conference play.
The Wildcats will return home for two matches next weekend as they host Northern Colorado Friday and Northern Arizona next Saturday at the Swenson Gym.
