Wildcats Sweep Utah Valley 3-0

Ogden, UT ? The Weber State volleyball team picked up won its final non-conference match of the season sweeping Utah Valley Tuesday night at the Swenson Gym. The ?Cats won the match 31-29, 25-21, 29-27 to improve to 16-11 overall on the season.
The ?Cats had to have extra work in two of the sets to seal the win. The first set had eight ties and four lead changes. Utah Valley had two set points but both times the ?Cats answered with kills from Amy Dunford. Leah Burmesiter sealed the deal with a kill to win the set, the longest set of the season for Weber State.
WSU closed the second set with three straight points to go up 2-0 in the match. The third set had nine ties and two lead changes and also went into extra points. The Wildcats had four match points and finally won the match after back-to-back kills by Burmeister.
“This was exciting volleyball and a fun match tonight,” said WSU head coach Al Givens. “It was good for us to play a match like this and the players really hung in and fought hard.”
Utah Valley out hit the ?Cats .131 to .125, which was Weber State's fourth worst hitting percentage of the season, and the worst in a winning match. The ?Cats had two more kills and eight more digs than the Wolverines but were out blocked 15-11. WSU did have three aces and a season-low two service errors.
Junior Chelsea Bair led the ?Cats with her Big Sky best 16th double-double of the season, finishing with 17 kills and 13 digs. Burmeister had her sixth double-double with 13 kills and 10 digs, to go along with four blocks.
Caitlyn Anderson added 13 digs for Weber State and Brittney Bisaillon added seven kills and seven blocks.
The win was the sixth for Weber State over Utah Valley with the ?Cats now 6-0 in matches in Ogden, and 0-4 in matches in Orem.
WSU will now return to Big Sky Conference action when they host Sacramento State this Saturday at 7:30 at the Swenson Gym. WSU is 5-6 in league action with five conference matches remaining.
