Wildcats Knock Off Hornets 3-1

Ogden, UT ? Weber State won its third straight and improved to 6-6 in Big Sky action following a 3-1 win over Sacramento State Saturday night at the Swenson Gym. The ?Cats won the match 25-16, 21-25, 25-17, 25-19, their first victory over Sacramento State in Ogden in six years.
The first three sets did not see a single lead change. The ?Cats hit .257 in the first and held the Hornets to -.057. Sacramento State came back to win the second set but the Wildcats dominated the third set. WSU had 18 kills and just one hitting error for a percentage of .586.
The fourth set saw eight ties and seven lead changes. With the set tied 8-8 the Wildcats went on a 9-4 run and never looked back. WSU hit .364 in the fourth set with 16 kills and four errors.
“I was pleased with our effort tonight and pleased with the overall team effort,” said WSU head coach Al Givens. “We were very aggressive on defense which started a lot of the things we were able to do offensively. We hit the ball well and had good energy throughout the match.”
Weber State had four players post double digits in kills led by junior Chelsea Bair who posted 17 kills, along with five digs, five blocks, and three aces.
Senior Leah Burmeister posted her seventh double-double of the season, finishing with 14 kills and 14 digs. Brittney Bisaillon added 12 kills while hitting .478. She also recorded five blocks and now needs just seven more to become the Big Sky's all-time leader. Junior Jenna Leggat also added 12 kills.
The Wildcats finished with 20 more kills and six more blocks, and six more digs than the Hornets. WSU also out hit Sacramento State .312 to .126. The win was the first for the ?Cats over the Hornets in Ogden since 2002.
Weber State improves to 17-11 overall this season, their most wins in six years. The ?Cats are now 6-6 in league action with four conference matches remaining. WSU is currently tied with Sacramento State for fifth in the league standings.
The ?Cats will hit the road next week for two matches at Northern Arizona and Northern Colorado.
