'Cats Defeat Spartans in Five Sets

The Weber State volleyball team pulled out a 3-2 win over San Jose State Saturday in the final match of the Arizona Wildcat Classic in Tucson, Arizona. The 16-25, 25-20, 25-22, 23-25, 15-11 victory improves the ?Cats to 2-1 on the opening weekend of the season.
After falling 25-16 in the first set, WSU rallied with a strong performance the rest of the match. The ?Cats hit .444 in the second set, which included 13 kills and just one hitting error. The ?Cats also took the third set but the Spartans rallied to win the fourth and set up the decisive fifth set.
In the first fifth set of the season the ?Cats never trailed, jumping out to a 6-2 lead in route to the victory.
The star of the day was senior Brittney Bisaillon who not only led the team with 15 kills and hit .556, she also recorded eight blocks and made Weber State history. The eight blocks made Bisaillon the school's all-time leader in career total blocks with 493. She also leads the school in career block assists.
Junior Micah Folsom posted a seasonal best 12 kills in the match to go along with eight digs. Junior Chelsea Bair also recorded 11 kills and Caitlyn Anderson had a match-best 18 digs.
The Spartans totaled 13 more kills and seven more digs that Weber State, but the ?Cats did out hit SJSU and were able to seal the win.
Weber State, who is playing the first ten matches of the season away from home, returns to action next Tuesday night when they play at Utah State. After that the ?Cats will head to the Baylor Classic for three more matches next weekend.
