Wildcats Knock Off Aztecs 3-2

The Weber State volleyball team rallied for a 3-2 victory over San Diego State Friday night in the first match of the Gonzaga Invitational in Spokane, Washington. The victory, which moves WSU to 6-3 on the season, was the second win over San Diego State in one week after beating the Aztecs 3-1 last Saturday at the Baylor Classic in Waco, Texas.
WSU won the match 21-25, 25-19, 19-25, 25-21, 15-6 for its second-straight five set win. The Wildcats held a 15-10 lead in the first set but the Aztecs then rattled off an 11-2 run and took a 21-17 lead. They closed the set on a 15-6 run to win 25-21. Weber State came back strong in the second set. The 'Cats never trailed in the set and finished with a 6-1 run to secure the win.
The Aztecs never trailed in route to winning the third set and took a 2-1 lead into the fourth, a set in which the ?Cats won 25-21 to set up the deciding set.
Weber State never trailed in the fifth set while posting six kills and just one hitting error, compared to six errors and four kills for San Diego State. The Wildcats are now 3-0 in five-set matches so far this season.
For the fifth-straight match the ?Cats were led in kills by junior Chelsa Bair who tied her season-high with 18 kills and had ten digs for her third double-double of the season. It marked the 50th match in Bair's 74 match career in which she has posted ten or more kills. Junior Micah Folsom finished with 11 kills and a season-high 14 digs for her second double-double of the season.
Caitlyn Anderson led the team with 17 digs and Brittney Bisaillon posted nine kills for the ?Cats. The Wildcats out-hit the Aztecs .208 to .159. WSU also had more kills and digs.
Weber State, which is playing the first 11 matches of the season on the road, will face two matches in Spokane Saturday. The 'Cats will take on UTEP at 12:00 p.m. Mountain time and finish off the tournament against the host Gonzaga Bulldogs at 8:00 p.m.
