'Cats Drop Two Matches at Baylor Classic

The Weber State volleyball team was swept in back-to-back matches Friday at the Baylor Classic in Waco, Texas, snapping a three-match winning streak. WSU lost 3-0 to Baylor in the first match and also fell 3-0 to Rice later in the day. The ?Cats will face two more matches Saturday at the tournament.
In the morning match Baylor won the match 25-20, 25-22, 25-20. The ?Cats led 18-16 when the Bears finished the set with a 7-2 run. In the second set WSU led 19-15 but Baylor went on a 10-3 run to finish out that set, a set in which Weber State hit just .079 and had eight errors. Baylor never trailed in route to winning the third set.
For the match the Wildcats hit .122, the second lowest percentage of the season. They also had 21 attack errors, to go along with 35 kills. Baylor also out dug the ?Cats 50-42 and led in blocks 10-3.
Junior Chelsea Bair led the ?Cats with 11 kills and eight digs.
In the afternoon match the Rice Owls picked up a 31-29, 25-20, 25-18 victory. The match had 30 ties and saw ten lead changes. The first set the ?Cats had a couple of set points but couldn't convert and pull out the win. Rice closed out the second set with a 6-2 run and finished an 18-18 tie in the third set with a 7-0 run to clinch the victory.
Bair again led the ?Cats with a season-high 17 kills to go along with ten digs for her first double-double of the season. Senior Brittney Bisaillon added 11 kills and five blocks and Micah Folsom posted six kills and a team-high 12 digs.
Weber State was out hit .248 to .197 by Rice. The Owls also had 12 more kills and seven more digs than the Wildcats.
The losses drop Weber State to 3-3 on the season. The ?Cats, who are playing their first 11 matches on the road, will take on San Diego State Saturday at 11:30 a.m. Mountain time and face UTSA at 4:30 p.m.
