After dropping two matches Friday, the Weber State volleyball team bounced back with two victories Saturday at the Baylor Classic in Waco, Texas.  WSU defeated San Diego State 3-1 and beat UTSA 3-2 to improve to 5-3 on the season.

 

In the morning match with the Aztecs, the ?Cats won 25-18, 25-16, 21-25, 25-19 in their first ever meeting with San Diego State.  WSU dominated the first two sets but the Aztecs came back to win the third.  However, Weber State never trailed in the fourth set in route to the win. 

 

Junior Chelsea Bair led the ?Cats with 18 kills, hit .324, and recorded nine digs.  Seniors Brittney Bisaillon and Leah Burmeister both recorded 11 kills and junior Caitlyn Anderson had 17 digs. 

 

Weber State hit .238 for the match with 52 kills, while the Aztecs hit .103 with 42 kills and 29 hitting errors. 

 

In the final match of the Baylor Classic, Weber State defeated the UTSA Roadrunners 25-19, 14-25, 25-16, 16-25, 15-8 for its second five-set win of the season. 

 

The first four sets saw a back-and-fourth strectch as WSU never trailed in route to winning the first set, but it was all UTSA in the second set.  WSU won the third but UTSA easily won the fourth set, to set up the decisive fifth set.

 

The Wildcats broke away from a 9-8 lead in the fifth with a 6-0 run to finish the match.

 

Chelsea Bair again led the ?Cats with another strong match, finishing with 17 kills and a season-high 13 digs for her second double-double of the year.  She led the Wildcats in kills in all four matches and was named to the Baylor Classic All-Tournament Team. 

 

Junior Jenna Leggat had a seasonal best 11 kills for the ?Cats and Bisiallon added 10 kills.  Caitlyn Anderson recorded a season-high 27 digs for the Wildcats, who had team season-highs in kills and digs. 

 

Weber State, who is playing its first 11 matches on the road, will next head to the Gonzaga Tournament for three matches next weekend.
