Wildcats Open 2009 with In-State Losses

OGDEN, Utah -- The Weber State men's tennis team opened up its 2009 dual match schedule this past weekend with a pair of losses to Brigham Young and the University of Utah.
The Wildcats jumped ahead of the Cougars early on Friday, taking the doubles point with wins in the top two spots, but BYU rallied for a 6-1 win by sweeping the singles competition. Against the Utes on Monday, the Wildcats were competitive across the board, but failed to win a match and fell 7-0.
Travis Covington and Spencer Marchant got the Wildcats going in doubles play against BYU, defeating Evan Urbina and A.J. Young 8-4 at the No. 2 position to offset an 8-1 loss at No. 3. Sascha Kiehne and Simon Unger finished off the point with a 8-8 (7) tiebreak win in the No. 1 spot.
The Wildcats will travel this weekend to Las Vegas, where they will face Nevada-Las Vegas and Missouri-Kansas City.
