'Cats Swept at Eastern Washington

The Weber State volleyball team started the second half of conference
play on a sour note with a 3-0 defeat at Eastern Washington Friday
night in Cheney. The Eagles picked up a 25-17, 25-17, 25-7 win to
remain in a tie for first in the conference.
The Wildcats fall to 5-16 overall and 3-6 in conference play with the loss.
Eastern Washington trailed just once the entire match. The Eagles led 11-10 in the first set when they went on an 8-1 run and never looked back. They closed out the second set on a 5-1 run to take a 2-0 lead.
The Eagles owned the third set, jumping out to an 8-1 lead. They then led 17-7 when they scored eight straight to win the set 25-7. The seven points is the fewest points scored in a set by Weber State since rally scoring began in 2001. EWU hit .667 in that set with 15 kills and just one error, while the Wildcats had five kills and five errors.
The Eagles hit .488 for the match, the best hitting percentage by a WSU opponent this season. They finished with 47 kills and just eight hitting errors in 80 attacks. The .488 is the best hitting percentage by a WSU opponent this season.

Eastern Washington's Ashley Hamilton made Big Sky history in the match. Hamilton hit 1.000 in the match with 12 kills on 12 attacks,
tying the Division I record and setting a Big Sky record for
hitting percentage. In Division I history, this feat (with at least 10
attempts) has only been achieved 22 times in history entering this season.
Weber State hit .134 with 27 kills and 14 errors. The Eagles also had 46 digs, compared to 22 by Weber State. The Wildcats had 20 fewer kills than EWU.
Senior Chelsea Bair led Weber State with 10 kills and six digs, while hitting .318. Caitlyn Anderson added eight kills and five digs.
The Wildcats have now lost six straight and 11 of their last 12 matches against Eastern Washington.
The 'Cats will continue their road trip Saturday when they play at Portland State at 8:00 p.m. Mountain time.
