Wildcats Swept in Second Straight Match

The Weber State volleyball team was swept for the second straight match falling 3-0 at Portland State late Saturday night in Portland. The Vikings won the match 25-18, 25-13, 27-25 to remain in a tie for first in the Big Sky. The Wildcats drop to 5-17 overall and 3-7 in conference action.
For the second straight night WSU allowed its opponent to a great hitting percentage, as the Vikings hit .438 with 55 kills and just nine errors on 105 attacks. Eastern Washington hit .488 in the 3-0 win over the 'Cats Friday night.
Weber State hit .274 for the night, which was the second best by the 'Cats all season. PSU finished with 55 kills, compared to 37 for Weber State. The Vikings also had eight aces and eight blocks on the night.
PSU led 17-16 in the first set when they went on an 8-2 run to close out the set and take a 1-0 lead. It was all Portland State in the second set as they finished with 20 kills and just two errors in the set. They never trailed in route to winning 25-13.
The Wildcats kept fighting in the third set, which included seven lead changes and ten ties. Weber State actually led 24-21 and had two straight set points but the Vikings scored four straight points and eventually won the set 27-25 to close out the match.
The Wildcats were led by Chelsea Bair who nearly finished with a double-double, posting 13 kills and nine digs, both team-highs.
She also hit .423 for the match with just two errors. Caitlyn Anderson, Amy Fackrell, and Jenna Leggat all had five kills each.
With the loss Weber State drops to 3-7 in Big Sky play with six conference matches remaining. Portland State is now tied with Eastern Washington at 8-2 in league play. The Wildcats defeated the Vikings 3-2 in September in Ogden.
Weber State will be back home next weekend when the 'Cats host Northern Arizona Friday and Northern Colorado Saturday at the Swenson Gym.
