OGDEN, Utah -- For the second day in a row, the Weber State men's tennis team won the doubles point only to see the match slip away in singles play. On Wednesday, the 'Cats suffered that fate at the hands of Eastern Washington, who won five of six singles matches for a 5-2 win at the Ogden Athletic Club.
WSU won the doubles competition behind wins at the top two spots. Sascha Kiehne and Simon Unger defeated Nico Riego de dios and Kyle Schraeder 8-5 at No. 1, while Henning Hipp and Travis Covington downed Daniel Pez and Julian Sanchez 8-4 at No. 2.
In singles, only Simon Unger earned a victory for the Wildcats. His victory was impressive as he dispatched the reigning Big Sky Player of the Week Kyle Schraeder in straight-sets 6-1, 6-1. Unger finished off Shraeder before any other match had reached a second set.
The Wildcats fell to 6-8 overall and suffered their first Big Sky loss of the season, dropping to 2-1 in conference play. The Eagles improved to 11-6 overall and 4-1 in the conference.
