'Cats Drop Tight Match With Wyoming

OGDEN, Utah -- For the third-straight day, the Weber State women's tennis team won the doubles point to grab an early lead, only to see the match slip away in singles. On Sunday, the Wildcats dropped a 4-3 decision to Wyoming at the Ogden Athletic Club.
"This was a tough loss," said WSU head coach Jonas Ehrlin. "We played very well in doubles again taking the doubles point, but we could not finish it up in singles and came up a match short to secure the win after some close matches. Despite the loss, the team played very well which is promising with some very important conference matches coming up"
Keya Jenkins and Greyce Farias defeated Jamie Nelson and Rebecca Burger in a tight 9-7 battle at No. 2 doubles to give the opening point to Weber State. Elsje Beneke and Karlie Hancock set the point up for WSU with an 8-2 win over Calli Pass and Carolina Chaix at No. 3.
In singles, Beneke and Hancock each earned a point for the Wildcats. Hancock finished up the week 6-0 overall over the last three days after pulling out a 4-6, 6-4, 6-0 three set win over Chaix at No. 5 singles. Beneke, meanwhile cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 win over Pass in the No. 6 position. Brittiny Moore nearly gave WSU the point it needed to claim the match, taking her matchup into a third set. She would end up falling in the third set to Jamie Nelson 6-1, 5-7, 6-0.
Weber State will next face Sacramento State on Friday, April 3 at 9:00 a.m. in Ogden.
