Wildcats fall to Grizzlies, 3-0

Montana senior middle blocker Jaimie Thibeault had 12 kills and eight blocks to lead the Grizzlies to a 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-20) at the Adams Center's West Auxilary Gym in Big Sky Conference action on Friday night.
Wray also added nine digs for Weber State. Senior setter Kim Lissinna had 29 assists and nine digs, while freshman left side hitter Piper Wahlin had five kills and seven digs.
Montana came out firing in the opening set, staking out a rapid 9-2 lead. Weber State rallied behind Noble, who had four kills in the set, to make it 15-14, but the Wildcats struggled to find a way around Montana's wall at the net as the Grizzlies had six team blocks in the set. Noble and Wray each finished the set with four kills, while Wahlin had six digs in the eight-point defeat.
Weber State battled out to an early lead, holding a 13-11 advantage in the second set. Montana scored six straight to take a 17-13 lead and withstood several late charges to take the three-point win and a 2-0 lead in the best-of-5 match. The set was the 30th time this season that the Wildcats have lost a set by three points or less. Wray had a team-high seven kills during the set.
Montana opened up an early lead in the third set, and led 18-6 behind its strong blocking. The Wildcats, behind the hot arm of Noble, valiantly tried to rally, but ultimately came up short. Noble had six kills in the third set.
Weber State will wrap up its 2010 season on Saturday night when the Wildcats travel to Bozeman, Mont., to face the Bobcats of Montana State University. First serve between Weber State and Montana State is set for 7 p.m. at Shroyer Gym.
Saturday's match will be final on the sidelines of the Purple and White for head coach Al Givens, who is resigning after 18 seasons as Weber State's head coach.
It will also be the final match for senior setter Kim Lissinna.
