OGDEN, Utah -- Sophomore left side hitter Bethany Wray tallied a team-best 12 kills, but the Weber State University women's volleyball team fell to in-state rival Utah by a razor-thin margin on Saturday night at Swenson Gym.

Utah swept the match in straight sets, winning 26-24, 26-24, 25-14 to improve to 13-12 overall. Weber State fell to 3-24.

Redshirt-freshman middle blocker Elli Graff added eight kills on 17 attempt, hitting .412 for the match. Sophomore middle blocker Carissa Noble had five blocks, while freshman left side hitter Piper Wahlin had a career-high three service aces.

The first and second sets were both tied at 23, and again at 24, with the Utes scoring the final two points of each set to take a 2-0 lead in the best-of-5 match.

Weber State scored the first two points of the third set, but Utah quickly countered and opened up an early lead that it maintained to the finish line.

Weber State will wrap up the home portion of its 2010 campaign on Friday, Nov. 12, when the Wildcats host Big Sky Conference rival Idaho State. It will be the final home match for Weber State coach Al Givens, who announced earlier this week he would resign following the season.

Saturday's match feature the two longest tenured collegiate volleyball coaches in Utah, with Givens' 18 seasons for the Purple and White being second only to Utah's Beth Launiere's 21 seasons.
